 Saturday night found the team pitted at Boone Speedway (Boone, Iowa) for an IMCA Weekly Racing Series program in the SportMod division.
Ben locked into the main event via preliminary action, and raced his way to a second place finish in the feature behind race winner, Johnathon Logue. Tara Longnecker, Tim Love, and Doug Smith rounded out the top five finishers. Kates' second place finish clinched the IMCA SportMod Championship at Boone Speedway. | August 23rd, 2014 - Kates Scores Impressive Fourteenth Win of 2014 |
| Back in familiar territory on Saturday night, Ben Kates bagged his fourteenth victory of the season at Boone Speedway (Boone, Iowa).
Thirty-seven IMCA Sport Mods registered for the event. Kates locked into the eighteen lap feature via a third place finish in his respective heat race. In the main event Ben climbed through the field, and was running second when the race's first caution waved on lap eleven. On the restart Kates looked to the outside of early leader Brett Lowry, with Lowry fighting back before Kates was able to assume the point as lap fourteen was scored. Kates held onto the top spot through two more caution periods, and secured the win over Lowry, Sam Wieben, Jake McBirnie, and Rocky Caudle. It was Kates' seventh victory of the season at Boone Speedway, and continues to lead the championship point standings ahead of Johnathon Logue, who came home fourteenth. | Ben Kates decided to enter a single event over the weekend, returning to Boone Speedway (Boone, Iowa) for a Weekly Racing Series program.
A stout field of forty IMCA Sport Mods filled the pit area, and a fourth place finish in heat race action positioned Bean starting thirteenth on the feature grid. In the main event, the Tonganoxie, Kansas ace advanced eight spots to register a solid fifth place finish at the checkered flag. | August 9th, 2014 - Ben Kates Victorious in Night of 1,000 Stars at Hancock |
 Ben Kates entered the opening round of a doubleheader at Hancock County Speedway (Britt, Iowa) on Thursday night. The 20th Annual Night of 1,000 Stars drew a field of thirty-five IMCA Sport Mods to the oval. Ben started his outing by winning his heat race from the pole position to lock into the fifth starting spot for the finale.
In the feature Kates was battling in the top five when he tangled with another competitor, bringing out the caution flag. He was able to rejoin the tail of the field, and mounted a convincing charge to the front that landed him in Victory Lane for his twelfth win of the 2014 season. Brady Joynt finished second followed by Clay Evans, Jared Boumesster, and Shane Swanson. (Taylor Brook Photo) Round #2 at Hancock County Speedway was contested on Friday evening, as twenty-seven entries returned for battle for the $500 top prize. Ben struggled in preliminary action, finishing sixth in his heat race to lock into the 22nd starting spot for the main event. | Kates Motorsports entered a single event over the weekend as they traveled to familiar territory on Saturday night. An IMCA Weekly Racing Series program was contested at Boone Speedway (Boone, Iowa), and drew a stout field of thirty-two Sport Mods to the oval.
Ben won his preliminary heat race to lock into the main event, but unfortunately in the feature his night would come to an end before it ever got started. Front-row starter Lukas Onstot looped his entry, leaving Kates with nowhere to go and damage to his #23k Kates Motorsports/Harris machine, forcing him to retire from the balance of the program.
