Ben Kates entered the opening round of a doubleheader at Hancock County Speedway (Britt, Iowa) on Thursday night. The 20th Annual Night of 1,000 Stars drew a field of thirty-five IMCA Sport Mods to the oval. Ben started his outing by winning his heat race from the pole position to lock into the fifth starting spot for the finale.
In the feature Kates was battling in the top five when he tangled with another competitor, bringing out the caution flag. He was able to rejoin the tail of the field, and mounted a convincing charge to the front that landed him in Victory Lane for his twelfth win of the 2014 season. Round #2 at Hancock County Speedway was contested on Friday evening, as twenty-seven entries returned for battle for the $500 top prize. Ben struggled in preliminary action, finishing sixth in his heat race to lock into the 22nd starting spot for the main event. Despite starting deep in the pack, Kates sliced through the field to record a tenth place finish in the final rundown.

On Saturday night action shifted to Boone Speedway (Boone, Iowa) for an IMCA Weekly Racing Series program. Thirty-three entries were on hand for the event, and Ben would use a third place finish in the first heat race to lock into the main event. He went on to score his second victory in the last three starts, and thirteenth of the season ahead of Jake McBirnie, Shawn Albers, Lynn Brockett, and Tim Love.
